Pretty much same 2 hour drive from Ottawa along the 148 then up the 323 as last Sunday, however I wasn’t going back to Mt.Blanc. I was headed for Tremblant.
The coverage was still good, but far below Tremblant’s first weekend of April average.
Started skiing late, it was almost 11am. However I didn’t really stop for lunch and I did 15 runs for 7300m (24000′) vertical. Tremblant’s Spin Festival with a massive jumps and stuff going on and the place was pretty crowded. Cars were parked all the way to the last lot on the South side, so I decided to drive an extra 15 minutes to park on the (still not developed) North side parking. Parking within a walking distance to the lifts.
The surfaces were pretty frozen and hard still at noon. It was pretty hard getting a clean edge when your skis haven’t been turned in a few months (my tune, its Spring conditions right?).
South, North and Soleil sides were open, the Edge wasn’t. Bump runs were open late. Expo/Cossak opened roughly prior to noon, however I was disappointed to see Grand Prix/Zig Zag/Vertige on the Upper South side still close until maybe past 1pm???
Line ups were maybe 15 minutes in the SINGLE line (which was fastest) for the Expo Express HSQ on the Lower North side at around 11am. The bottom-top Duncan Express line seems even longer. One hour later, things got reasonable and even relatively quiet at the end of the day
Did runs on La Griffe, the bumps on Expo and Cossak, Geant, Devil’s River, Duncan, Lowell Thomas,Marie-Claude Asselin which is one of the old tbar lines (big mistake – frozen solid, ice and some bare patches).
Laurentienne was the only run I did on le Versant Soleil. South side’s Taschereau, Kandahar, Flying Mile (at the lower half), Vertige (once it finally opened).
Favorite runs of the day:
bumps: Cossak next to the Expo on the Lower North side
groomed: Flying Mile on the Lower South side which used to be the Spring Bump run when I was a kid.
At the end of the day, instead of driving toward the 323 and Ottawa, I headed toward the 117 and drove down to Montreal.
Last week ski destination: Mont Blanc from the town of St-Faustin-Lac Carré
