Skiing started at Camp Fortune in the early Twenties; much has changed in almost one century. One of the oldest ski areas in Canada, it was the first ski area in Eastern Canada to have a double chairlift, first in Quebec with snowmaking and one of the first in the province to offer night skiing.
Camp Fortune is located in Gatineau Park only 12 minutes from Parliament Hill in downtown Ottawa according to this brochure. Home of the Ottawa Ski Club (now the Camp Fortune Ski Club). I talked a bit about the history of Fortune in a trip report from last January.
Tonight I present you the Camp Fortune from 30 years ago (1980-81), way before I knew Fortune and moved to the region. At that time Fortune had one double chair, one triple, four t-bars, 1 poma and 1 rope-tow. The only thing remaining from those lifts are the triple and the Alexander t-bar. The area now has 4 quads. The ski jumps are gone with a few chalets.
