Revelstoke Mountain Resort located on Mount Mackenzie opened in December 2007 and now offer the longest vertical in North America with 1,713 meters (5,620ft). Prior to this, Mount Mackenzie had hosted a smaller liftserved operation and catskiing.
This week features two brochures: One sent by a good friend back in 1995-96, a decade prior to the expansion. The other from the 2008-09 before the start of the new area’s second season. As my friend mentioned at the time, talks of expanding towards the summit which would bring the vertical of the ski area from 2,000ft to 6,000ft. A few season afterward, Mt. Mackenzie’s top lift was amputated limiting skiing to the bottom slopes. Top mountain access was still done via catskiing, however changes and lifts to the top of the old area and higher would only be a few years away.
Somewhat similar to the expansion of Whitetooth/Kicking Horse a few years earlier, Mt. Mackenzie/Revelstoke would move from a 2,000ft local ski area to becoming a major North America destinations resort.
