In the next few weeks, I’ll feature brochure related to skiing in the Summer Months. The first is from Whistler, British Columbia.
Blackcomb at Whistler brochure from Summer 1990: “Summer on Ice”. Your Guide to Blackcomb Mountain.
A brochure that highlights all the summer activities on the mountain.
“The Newest Thing at Blackcomb is 10,000 Years Old : Our Glacier.”
Blackcomb is the only resort in North America to offer Lift-Serviced Public Glacier Skiing in Summer.
The Hiker, Biker and Skier Guide.
Our Summer Skiing takes place on Horstman Glacier. To get there, ride to Mile High Station at the Top of 7th Heaven Express. The Glacier is serviced by two t-bars and offers the best summer skiing in North America.
I believe that in 1990, the mountain would shutdown to the public for a few weeks then the summer season would run from June 16 to September 3. It wasn’t the case on the first Blackcomb summer season in 1988. Skiing was on a vertical of 209 meters and it would cost you $26. You could rent Ski equipment and clothes. You could also rent bikes.
I picked up this brochure while visiting a friend in Whistler in early July 1990, didn’t ski, just dropped by to say “Hi”.
Centerfold of the brochure. Had to separate the side notes for scanning.
