In the previous Friday Night Video on commercials, we saw that ski celebrities are rarely used to sell products in North America as skiers are rarely a household names. That isn’t always the case as Jean-Claude Killy name recognition was big enough to sell a product.
The Crazy Canucks skiers Ken Read and Steve Podborski were arguably the most recognized names in Canadian skiing since Nancy Greene in late 1960s. In 1982 the following products wanted to be associated with them. At the end of the 1981-82 season, Podborski had reached the downhill podium 15 times and won the downhill that season and finished runner-up the previous season while his teammate Read made it 12 times and was runner-up for the title two season prior.
