Monday morning…what’s left post?
Places that stopped spinning yesterday and won’t spin for skiing until next season:
The ski areas that closed had all between 16-29 runs, Le Valinouët had 17, but for them it represented 85% of their runs open, while the US areas a 20-30% of the runs opened. No details on Smokey, but I would suspect it would be similar as the Saguenay ski area.
Smokey Mountain NL (Ladrador)
Le Valinouët QC (Saguenay)
Sunday River ME
Places that stopped spinning yesterday won’t spin until next weekend (or Friday):
MSS has 3 runs opens (70 West, Nordique and the snowpark) while MSA had about 40% of its runs open.
Mont Ste-Anne QC (open Fri-Sat-Sun)
Mont St-Sauveur QC (weekend only)
Places that are still spinning Monday morning:
The Vermont ski areas got hit by 16-19 inches last week and saw their trial counts jumped up. Ending into the weekend Killington and Jay had respectively 37 and 50 runs open. Although that number represents a small percentage of Killington 150+ runs, for Jay it represented close to 2/3 of its trails network. Best Percentage wise, south of the 48 parallel (ie. Valinouët).
Sugarloaf ME : 17 trails edit: open Monday, but closed the remainder of the week. Reopening next weekend if possible.
Jay Peak VT : 37 trails
Killington VT : 6 trails
When is the Ultimate End of the Season?
The New England ski areas aren’t showing their cards and haven’t clearly mentioned any closing dates hoping to last as long as possible.
Ste-Anne has always worked on a fixed calendar and haven’t been in the last handful of open ski areas as they always closed on the last weekend of April at the latest (it used to be the 1st May weekend) regardless of the amount of snow. St-Sauveur, Quebec ‘longest season’ king for decade is alone and have nothing to worry.
Both areas have respectively indicated April 29 and May 13 as they potential closing dates. A couple of warm days coming this week, so only time will tell.
The East has generally offered liftserved May skiing. This is an exceptional season (for all the bad reasons), will it happened this season? Since 2007, there has always been between 3 to 7 ski areas making into May in the East. We are down to 5 ski areas and 3 weekends until May. 😕
