Down to a historically low of 3!!! Three ski areas that might be open this weekend.
In the last 24 hours, Mont Ste-Anne and Sugarloaf announced that they wouldn’t reopen this weekend and their ski season was done. This is a continuing bad news for this pathetic season where the season has been dramatically shorten.
The number of ski areas remaining are what we would generally find in May, not around April 22.
What’s left? North to South.
All these are within a day drive distance from Montréal and Burlington.
3 in the East: MSS, K and Jay.
Mont St-Sauveur QC (weekend only) – probably 2 runs of 25 : West 70 and Nordique. $20 lift tix
Jay Peak VT – currently at 12 runs out of 77. $45, $35 with a season pass from another area.
Killington VT – 4 out of 140: Superstar, Skylark and High Road. $49
Since I’ve been tracking end of season closing in 2006, between 2 to 7 ski areas in East (Canada included) would make it to May. We are still 12 days away from May skiing. Mont St-Sauveur still has May 13 marked down as a goal while Jay and Killington having talked about any firm dates.
Normally May wouldn’t be an issue, however with Mont Ste-Anne closing on April 15, 2 weekends prior to its announced closing day and Sugarloaf the following day, nothing can be taken for granted. Jay and K is still going daily, but Jay might change plans after this Sunday and go on weekend only if decides to carry on. Rumour has it that K is trying to make it till late April.
Snow season isn’t over
Something ironic snow wise, looks like Eastern Quebec, especially North of the St. Lawrence are going to be dumped on after this coming weekend. Vermont and northern reach of New England should be snow to a lesser extend.
