“Mt. Bachelor, Naturally”
Like Crystal Mountain in Washington, last week’s feature on Mad Attic, Mt. Bachelor was open this past June 30-July 1 weekend.
For the second year in a row, the Pacific Northwest was having an excellent year snowwise. For a second year, Mt. Bachelor decided to reopen for the last weekend in June/early July.
Located in near the town of Bend on a stratovolcano, it arguably provides some of the best skiing in Oregon and can offer some of the best Spring time skiing in North America. Bachelor started operation in 1958 with only a rope-two and a poma. The summit was reached with the installation of a high-speed triple chair in 1983 since replaced by a quad. Now the ski area has 10 chairlifts, 7 of them High speed Quads servicing 3,300 vertical feet and one of the largest ski areas in the US. The ski area Powdr Corporation from Utah has owned the ski areas since 2001.
