France’s the small Alps village of La Grave located in the département des Hautes-Alpes is next to a unique ski area. In the shadow of La Meije, the area is lift-served by a two stages gondola that helps access a 2150 meters of vertical drop with no real ski piste. The surface lift connects with the Deux Alpes ski resort.
La Grave is one of the mecca of ski mountaineering, in the early 1990s it was also referred as Valley X in order to keep the spotlight away from it for a little longer in one of Greg Stumps movies.
This Monday we offers the La Grave – La Meije brochure from 2011. Gondola give access in all seasons for either biking, hiking, climbing or skiing.
Here are a few quotes from the brochure:
“A unique resort offering wilderness skiing and breath-taking slopes.”
“One of the World’s great skiing places.”
“The sheer beauty of the place, the quality of the snow and the off-piste ski area have attracted people in the know from all over the World.”
“Unique ski area and one of the most amazing runs in Europe with an uninterrupted vertical drop of 2150 meters in a stunning setting.”
