What happened to Mondays???
So after a few years of warm Novembers, Mother nature gave us a seasonal November without much snow and more than enough freezing temperatures to get snowmakers busy from Ontario to Maine with skiing happening in Quebec, Vermont and Maine since the first week of November.
Tremblant traditionally opens on US Thanksgiving and recently have generally managed only to give us busy limited WROD skiing on upper North side. The seasonal cold temps permitted them this year to offer both side of the upper mountain with one trail-to-bottom. The same excellent news happened across the East. Quebec alone had over 26 ski areas, all 100% of the Outaouais/Ottawa ski areas overlapping the Quebec-Ontario provincial border.
So after seasonal November made way for a record warm December Tuesday. Seasonal high in Ottawa for this day is -1c, it was +18c today, smashing the 30-year-old record by 5c. Back to normal tomorrow.
I’ve been asked lately what happened to my regular Monday Mad Addict Attic’s posts? I had to look back and realized that I haven’t published anything the La Grave – La Meije piece in early October. As I mentioned in another post, Fall has traditionally been the busiest time of the year for myself and instead of sacrificing something else, I slowdown the frequencies of my posts. Blog posts and ski days have together been sacrificed.
For my now, I’ll apply the same logic as my once weekly Friday Night Video posts; I’ll try to post Monday’s Attic once a month. Friday Night Video are now published on the last Friday of every month. I’ll try to published my Monday Mad Attic’s posts on every second Mondays of the month.
Besides normal around the house obligations, I’ve been working on sorting stuff and scanning some pictures. Preparation, research and scanning of ski maps have been using too much of my time versus scanning old pictures. I have a full cabinet of ski brochures. Although most of my old pictures will remain in the private domain; I’m also focusing on getting some skiing pictures done for future use in Ski Mad World. The continuation Mondays and Fridays weekly posts wasn’t giving me the time to work on finishing editing, publishing and scanning pictures (or re-scanning) of old Trip Reports posted on various ski forums in the 2003 to 2010 period. I also want to update my Library section which would also include Ski Mad World’s Book collection which has been sitting in Draft mode for the last 2 years.
In the coming ski season, I want to focus more on publishing TRs, but not so much of my local sorties, but more on some old trips. Hopefully, I’ll get a few TRs up in the coming months. Looking to write-up some TRs, similar to my twenty anniversaries trips from Tuckerman in May 1992, Killington in early and mid-June of that year.
Guess what? I was also very busy Fall 1992 and only started my ski season on December 18, 1992.
