John Eaves was on the short list for a long time, actually I had to look if I had feature him already. While researching I was surprised that the Unofficial Network blog wondering “who is this John Eaves guy” in one of their posts from last year.
Who is John Eaves?
He is better known as the ski stuntman roles in James Bond movies. John Eaves was featured in many films, ski films or movies that featured skiing.
But first, he is a son of a famous skiing mother, but also made a name for myself in the World of Skiing. Like his mother and aunt, Rhoda and Rhona Wurtele, he is a member of the Canadian Ski Hall of Fame. He was at the forefront of the Freestyle skiing with 6 World Championships for the Combined and in Aerials from 1977 to 1980.
After his amateur ski career was over, he appeared in Dick Barrymore and Willy Bogner’s ski movies. He was also featured in blockbuster movies like James Bond’s The Spy who Loved Me, A View to a Kill, but is probably best remember for the ski chase in a bobsleigh run in For Your Eyes Only. He appeared in over a dozen movies, many of them as stuntman. He was co-stars with Suzy Chaffee in Willy Bogner’s Fire and Ice, one of the rare ski movies with a wide distribution.
John Eaves turned 60, he was born in Montreal back on April 8, 1953.
Here is what Ski Canada asked him earlier this year:
SkiCanada: Your 60th birthday is coming up. Anything planned?
John Eaves: I’m looking to huck my meat 60 feet on my birthday. No promises, though.
Happy Birthday John and hope you keep ripping for as many years as your mom and aunt.
Here is a funny sequence from 1986’s Fire and Ice:
