Part 6 on May 6 and two are planning to operate next weekend.
Warm Summer like weather has hit Eastern Ski Country north and south of the border. This caused Jay Peak to abandoned their tentative opening plans for this weekend, a second year in a row which it has fallen short of May liftserved turns. Sugarbush tried to pull off opening Saturday and Sunday, but only managed Saturday. Although Sugarloaf had the most terrain open this past weekend, the forecast weather for this week melted any chances that they would an extra week as they had hoped.
All this said and done, only two ski areas planned to be running one lift next weekend. Potential dates are mentioned, but things can changed quickly. Last year the first weekend of May was the end of the ski season for the last standing: Mont St-Sauveur. This year we have two going for longer, possibly much longer.
St-Sauveur will be spinning this week and into the weekend for a race camp (rain or shine), however they will probably not open if it rained and no one shows up. The snow is there and there is
unofficial talk of extending the season a bit longer past next weekend and to May 18-19. Lifts ticket are $20.
Killington has circled June 2 on the calendar, they plan to run the Superstar Quad on Friday to Sunday until June. Lift ticket $39, an additional saving of 50% and 25% lift tickets on Friday and weekends respectively.
