*Update : April 8th, 12:50am: A few confirmations and closure for specific days. The very wet forecast has made a few areas make some adjustments on their planned operations. As of now, only 2 ski areas have decided not to reopen for the season (Ste-Marie and Habitant QC) Quebec, while one (Calabogie ON) decided to remain closed this weekend and try to reopen for Easter weekend.
In the last week, as expected, we saw the closure of one third of the areas that were able to offer April skiing. The last few days have been beautiful spring skiing days, however like many of you, I’ve been stuck inside. Now that I’m looking towards the next few days, it would seem that a good part of the East will receive precipitations of some kind. Areas north of the St. Lawrence Valley and higher elevation in Northern New England might be spare most of the liquid variety.
This weekend should make the end of the season to many of the remaining open areas, a few will be hoping to make to the Easter Holiday weekend. Except for a few diehard ski resorts, Easter weekend offer marks the end of the season, this season will not be different. Eastern Quebec snowpack is still significant and they could offer many more turns, but the closure of these areas this season will be likely due to lack of skiers, not snow.
In anticipation to the wet weather, many ski areas that were still opened daily decided to put a pause until the weekend in order to preserve snow and/or avoid spinning lifts for a handful of skiers. As always, it is important to get the latest information from the ski resorts, because spinning lifts are to be taken for granted.
